Carel de Vogelaer (1653 - 8 August 1695) was a Dutch still life painter of the Baroque period primarily active in Italy. ==Biography== Vogelaer was born in Maastricht, but moved between 1671 and 1675 to Rome, where he shared a house with fellow Dutch painter Anthoni Schoonjans in the Via Margutta and trained or worked in the studio of Carlo Maratta. There he was called ''Carlo de' Fiori'' or ''Carlo dei Fiori'' for his paintings of still life themes such as flowers or game; other sources call him ''Carlo Volgar'' or ''Carlo Vogel''.〔(Compendio delle vite de'pittori, scultori e d'altri artefici ), by Vincenzo Fanti, page 133.〕 He joined the Bentvueghels with the Dutch nickname of ''Distelbloem'' ("thistle flower").〔 (Karel de Vogel mentioned in Bentvueghel poem ) in ''De groote schouburgh der Nederlantsche konstschilders en schilderessen'' (1718) by Arnold Houbraken, courtesy of the Digital library for Dutch literature〕 He died in Rome.
